Avoidance of wheat products may not be enough to maintain a gluten-free diet. For example, did you know that gluten is used as a food additive and stabilizing agent in salad dressings, ice cream, and even ketchup? Our unique Carbo-G™ formula was created to complement those seeking a gluten-free lifestyle by encouraging more complete digestion and absorption of grains.

* Polysaccharolytic Enzyme Blend. Gluten proteins in wheat products are surrounded by a starchy endosperm cell, which can more effectively be broken down with the alphagalactosidase, phytase, amylase, glucoamylase, and diastase enzymes included in Carbo-G™.

* Proteolytic Enzymes. In addition to our traditional protease blend, this formulation includes DPP-IV which helps break down some of the stubborn peptides found in grain that are often implicated in gluten intolerance.

* Probiotics. These “good” bacteria naturally present in the gut help support digestion to assist in maintaining optimum intestinal balance.

* Herbal and prebiotic plant fiber. Carbo-G™ includes several herbs known for their ability to promote gastrointestinal system health.

* Health Benefits: Transformation’s Professional Protocol Carbo-G™ is a digestive enzyme supplement designed to help reduce the symptoms of occasional bloating, diarrhea, gas, and abdominal cramps associated with diets high in complex carbohydrates.

Pecans promote heart health, lower cholesterol levels

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 6:19 AM

(NaturalNews) The health benefits offered by pecans are greater than previously believed, according to a new study published in The Journal of Nutrition. Researchers from Loma Linda University (LLU) in California have identified a host of beneficial antioxidants found in pecans that benefit the heart, lower bad cholesterol levels, and protect against disease-causing inflammation.

Dr. Ella Haddad and her team from LLU evaluated 16 men and women between the ages of 23 and 44 who were assigned to eat one of three diets. The first diet contained about three ounces of whole pecans, the second contained three ounces of blended pecans with water, and the third contained a control item. The team took blood samples of participants at various intervals up to 24 hours after consumption of the meals, and they observed a clear increase in oxygen radical absorbance capabilities (ORAC) as well as lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels among those who ate the pecan-enriched meals.

"Our tests show that eating pecans increases the amount of healthy antioxidants in the body," said Haddad, who is also an associate professor at LLU's School of Public Health. "This protective effect is important in helping to prevent development of various diseases such as cancer and heart disease."

Rich in tocopherols, a natural form of vitamin E, pecans contain specifically high levels of gamma-tocopherols, a form of vitamin E closely associated with inflammation reduction. In the study, blood levels of this important form of vitamin E doubled in just eight hours after pecan consumption. And after just three hours, gamma-tocopherol levels notably decreased LDL cholesterol levels in the body by 33 percent.

"This study is another piece of evidence that pecans are a healthy food," added Haddad. "Previous research has shown that pecans contain antioxidant factors. Our study shows these antioxidants are indeed absorbed in the body and provide a protective effect against diseases."

A previous LLU study published in The Journal of Nutrition demonstrated that simply adding pecans to one's diet can help lower cholesterol levels by 116.5 percent more than the American Heart Association's (AHA) Step I diet can. Together, the two studies confirm the incredible health-promoting power of pecans.

Omega 3s significantly reduce risk of macular degeneration

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 6:17 AM

(NaturalNews) Loading up on omega-3 fatty acids can significantly reduce your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), according to a new report published in the journal Archives of Ophthalmology. Data indicates that among women consuming varying levels of omega-3s, those getting the most are 38 percent less likely to develop the eye disease than those getting the least.

William G. Christen, ScD, from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and his colleagues, compiled data from the infamous Women's Health Study. This data included the eating habits of more than 38,000 women, including their intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) -- two specific types of omega-3s. For ten years, researchers tracked these women's eye health and compared it to their omega-3 consumption patterns.

At the end of the study period, 235 women developed AMD, and after adjusting for various external factors, the team determined a nearly 40 percent decreased risk of developing the eye disease among those who consumed the most omega-3s.

"[T]hese prospective data from a large population of women with no prior diagnosis of AMD indicate that regular consumption of DHA and EPA and fish significantly reduced the risk of incident AMD," wrote the authors.

A previous study published in the journal Ophthalmology found similar results, maintaining that elderly folks who consume high amounts of omega-3s are less likely to develop AMD than those who do not. And as many NaturalNews readers already know, omega-3s provide a myriad of other health benefits as well.

"Some of the reported benefits of the omega-3s include protection against heart disease, strokes, and clots in the lungs; anti-carcinogenic activity against tumors; protection against diabetes; prevention and treatment of arthritis; and treatment for asthma, PMS, allergies, inflammatory diseases, water retention, rough or dry skin, and multiple sclerosis," writes Gabriel Cousens in his book There Is a Cure for Diabetes: The Tree of Life 21-Day+ Program.

"The omega-3s are reported to increase vitality and contribute to smoother skin, shinier hair, softer hands, smoother muscle action, the normalization of blood sugar, increased cold weather resistance, and a generally improved immune system."

More than 2,000 vaccinated babies died: The cost of doing business.

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 6:13 AM

(NaturalNews) Earlier this month (March 2011), Japanese authorities ordered doctors to stop using pneumococcal and Hib vaccines because four children died after receiving the shots. However, the real news was never reported: more than 2,000 babies died in the United States after receiving vaccines for these very same diseases, yet authorities refuse to warn parents and halt production. A safety review is vital to determine whether a recall of the dangerous shots may be necessary to protect additional American babies from disability and death.

According to Paul Offit, media spokesperson for the vaccine industry, "the Japanese Ministry of Health was foolish to suspend the Hib and pneumococcal programs." Offit thinks the deaths were probably caused by SIDS, or underlying conditions, or another cause - anything except the vaccines. Often, children get sick and die by chance.

William Schaffner, chairman of the department of medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, believes, like Offit, that the deaths are "most likely...a coincidence." In a twist of irony, it may also be a coincidence that Schaffner receives money from vaccine manufacturers - whose stock prices traded lower after the announcement by Japan - for consulting and speaking about vaccines. Offit and Schaffner have never seen the dead children, nor have autopsies been conducted, so their assessments regarding the true cause of death are not based on science.

According to Shelly Burgess, an FDA spokesperson, the FDA and CDC "have not detected new safety concerns or unusual reporting patterns." That's odd, because the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), jointly operated by the FDA and CDC, has received more than 59,000 reports of adverse reactions to pneumococcal and Hib vaccines during the past several years. More than half of these cases - 30,094 - required hospitalization, with 2,169 deaths. About 95 percent of these deaths were in children under three years of age.

In the last five years, from 2006 through 2010, 17,595 people in the U.S. reported adverse reactions to pneumococcal and Hib vaccines; 464 of these people died after receiving their shots. It should also be noted that these numbers only represent "official" reports to VAERS. The former head of the FDA, David Kessler, has estimated that for every official report of an adverse drug reaction, about 100 other people are also hurt but fail to make a report.

In Japan, most vaccines are not required, so the mad, coercive tactics used by American vaccine officials to vaccinate all U.S. children and adults is not universal. In fact, Japanese infants are only expected to receive polio and DTaP vaccines. Pneumococcal and Hib vaccines were recently added to the Japanese schedule but are optional. Compare that to the more crowded, dangerous, and lucrative U.S. infant vaccine schedule: babies are expected to receive several doses of polio, DTaP, hepatitis B, pneumococcal, Hib, rotavirus, and influenza vaccines.

In summary, four Japanese children died after receiving vaccines and the Japanese Ministry of Health immediately halted the vaccine program. U.S. health officials declared this action "foolish" even though it is likely to save additional babies from harm. In the United States, thousands of people died after receiving vaccines for the very same diseases but authorities don't give a damn. U.S. vaccine authorities believe that children are expendable, a guaranteed, targeted market to be used for commercial benefit. Disability and death of U.S. citizens after receiving mandated vaccines is merely treated as the cost of doing business.

The secrets of detoxification: better sleep, consistent energy, clear skin, healthy organs, more clarity and a revved-up sex drive

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:24 AM

http://howtocleanseyourbody.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/1288280428-91.jpg(NaturalNews) Do you feel sluggish and low on energy? Toxic substances are all around us and today you'll learn how to detoxify your body and experience vibrant health.

Because of our modern lifestyle, you're exposed to more toxins than your body is designed to handle. The air you breathe, the water you drink and the food you eat may contain toxic chemicals. And if waste builds up, we get sick. It stands to reason, then, that detoxification should be your first step to a healthier you. Try the following five tips and this delicate process will put you on the fast track to a better sleep, consistent energy, clear skin, healthy organs, more clarity and a revved-up sex drive:

Fix your gut. Did you know that 70 percent of your immune power resides in your digestive tract? Unfortunately, because of our daily exposure to toxins, our intestinal health is under massive attack. Needless to say, you don't want that to happen. Eat real food rich in antioxidants and fiber, take probiotics and stay away from pesticides, preservatives, refined sugar and antibiotics.

Hydrate. "Drink enough water!" You've heard it a million times - and with a good reason. Each one of us is made up of over 70 percent water and that's why we need to drink enough fluids in order to help acid wastes flow out. And not just any fluids - remember that if you don't filter your water, your body will experience the negative results.

Detox your mind and spirit. Detoxification is not just about what you drink or eat - it's about what you think, too! Put some time aside to relax deeply every day to inhibit sympathetic nervous activity. Try meditation and deep breathing and replace online surfing with real-world activities. You'll feel more focused and enjoy a steady supply of energy.

Get moving. Sooner or later, your tissue will suffocate in their own waste products if you don't exercise regularly. So move your body (at least 35 minutes a day) and let your blood and lymphatic circulation do their job.

Try sauna. If you're walking around with toxins in your tissues, you'll never get a skin that glows. Fortunately, you can always utilize sauna to induce sweating and stimulate a deep cleansing process. The sauna heat releases both chemical and heavy metal toxins under the skin so that they can be purged through respiration - along with various other waste materials. As a result, you'll experience a level of renewal that is hard to surpass.

Detoxification is as invaluable for our health as the beating of the heart. Maximizing your body's detoxification capacity will soon bring a healthy domino effect, allowing you to take charge of your own health and well-being.

The Truth About Sunlight, Cancer and Vitamin D

New Vitamin D Research. Increase you levels to help avoid cancer, MS, and Diabetes

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 7:58 AM

(NaturalNews) The reign of censorship and suppression against vitamin D is now coming to an end. Even though the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and many institutions leading the cancer industry (including the ACS) have intentionally tried to downplay the ability of vitamin D to prevent cancer, a new study appearing in the journal Anticancer Research lays out the simple, powerful truth about vitamin D that we've been teaching at NaturalNews for years: A typical adults needs 4,000 - 8,000 IUs of vitamin D each day to prevent cancer, MS and type-1 diabetes, not the ridiculously low 400 - 800 IUs recommended by the U.S. government.

The new research was conducted by scientists at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. It is groundbreaking research because it establishes the relationship between vitamin D dosage and circulating vitamin D levels in the blood.

This is a first. It is crucial information for the health care revolution that will be necessary to save states and nations from total health care bankruptcy in the coming years. Vitamin D turns out to be one of the simplest, safest and most affordable ways to prevent degenerative disease and sharply reduce long-term health care costs.

Up to 8,000 IUs needed daily

"We found that daily intakes of vitamin D by adults in the range of 4,000 to 8,000 IU [international units] are needed to maintain blood levels of vitamin D metabolites in the range needed to reduce by about half the risk of several diseases -- breast cancer, colon cancer, multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes," said Dr. Cedric Garland. (http://health.ucsd.edu/news/2011/02...)

Dr. Garland is the professor of family and preventive medicine at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. He went on to say:

"I was surprised to find that the intakes required to maintain vitamin D status for disease prevention were so high -- much higher than the minimal intake of vitamin D of 400 IU/day that was needed to defeat rickets in the 20th century."

Study reveals 90% vitamin D deficiency rate across U.S. population

This particular study involved over 3,000 volunteers who were taking vitamin D supplements. Researchers drew blood samples from them in order to determine their levels of 25-vitamin D (the common form circulating in the blood).

The results were shocking even to the study authors, revealing that 90 percent of those studied were deficient in vitamin D, falling below the 40 - 60 ng/ml range now considered healthy. (Most nutritionally-aware experts in the natural health world recommend higher ranges of 60 - 70 ng/ml, actually.)

The U.S. government's Institute of Medicine has intentionally downplayed vitamin D recommendations, seemingly in an effort to keep boosting the profits of the cancer industry by denying any real benefit to vitamin D. The IOMs most recent recommendations seemed designed to actually cause vitamin D deficiency in the U.S. population.

The IOM has even gone out of its way to artificially lower the threshold of vitamin D deficiency by claiming that 20 ng/ml is a sufficient level. This magically transforms a "deficient" person into a "non-deficient" person by merely changing the definition. So a person with a level of 22 ng/ml, for example, is not considered "vitamin D deficient" by the established medical system, even though their vitamin D levels are so low that they may not be able to prevent cancer, MS or type-1 diabetes.

Why the truth about vitamin D is a huge threat to the established for-profit medical system

As NaturalNews has documented and reported many times over the last several years, the medical establishment -- and especially the cancer industry -- has willfully engaged in attempts to prevent people from learning the truth about vitamin D in order to protect the lucrative profits generated from sickness and disease. Vitamin D represents a greater threat to the medical establishment than any other single nutrient for three reasons:

1) Vitamin D is FREE (you can get it from the sun, without a prescription).

2) Vitamin D prevents over a dozen high-profit diseases and health conditions (osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes, MS, and others).

3) Vitamin D is extremely safe, even when taken in supplement form, because it's a natural vitamin / hormone that the body recognizes.

Or watch the incredibly popular video from the Health Ranger that explains how African Americans, Asians and Latinos are being exploited by the cancer industry through vitamin D censorship and encouraged nutritionally deficiencies:
http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=5A62F...

Highlights from the study

The following summary is extracted from the results of the study, available at: http://www.grassrootshealth.net/gar...

• The study examined 3,667 people and their vitamin D intake habits.

• Vitamin D intake of 10,000 IU / day had no toxicity.

• For those severely deficient in vitamin D, each 1,000 IU / day of increased supplementation resulted in an increase of 10 ng / ml in vitamin D blood levels.

• For those with existing blood levels above 30 ng / ml, each 1,000 IU / day of increased supplementation resulted in an increase of 8 ng / ml in vitamin D blood levels.

• For those with existing blood levels above 50 ng / ml, each 1,000 IU / day of increased supplementation resulted in an increase of 5 ng / ml in vitamin D blood levels.

• In other words, vitamin D supplementation has a curve of diminishing returns. Those with existing high levels of vitamin D do not experience as much benefit from vitamin D supplements as those with low levels (which is roughly 90% of the population).

• Vitamin D sales have increased 600% since 2001 (due largely to the efforts of those in both the natural health and honest science communities who are telling the truth about vitamin D).

• Vitamin D is remarkably safe! From the conclusion of the study:

"Universal intake of up to 40,000 IU vitamin D per day is unlikely to result in vitamin D toxicity."

Yes, that's 40,000 IUs per day.

See the abstract reprinted below.

Why nearly everyone in first-world nations needs more vitamin D

Thanks in large part to this remarkable research, it's now clear that all the intelligent people are going to up their vitamin D intake to something in the range of 8,000 IUs per day (or more), especially through the winter months.

Based on this study, I am personally increasing my intake to 10,000 IUs per day from October through April (in North America). And I'll be sure to get plenty of sunshine during the other months.

"Now that the results of this study are in, it will become common for almost every adult to take 4000 IU/day," said Dr. Garland. "This is comfortably under the 10,000 IU/day that the IOM Committee Report considers as the lower limit of risk, and the benefits are substantial."

"Now is the time for virtually everyone to take more vitamin D to help prevent some major types of cancer, several other serious illnesses, and fractures," said Robert P. Heaney, MD, of Creighton University, an experienced biomedical scientist.

It seems the conventional cancer industry, the IOM and even the FDA will not be able to censor the truth about vitamin D much longer. The truth is getting out, thanks in large part due to you, the NaturalNews readers who share these stories and help educate and inform your friends and family members.

Spread the news: Take more vitamin D! Please share this story on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere. Let people know that the research is in, and vitamin D is a remarkably safe "miracle" nutrient that nearly everyone needs to be supplementing. This is especially true if they have darker skin.

(We recommend vitamin D3 from quality nutritional supplement companies. Beware of cheap "multivitamin" sources that you find at common retailers. Go for quality supplements from reputable sources.)

Heartburn? Acid Reflux? Nexium and Prevacid may lead to magnesium deficiency.

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 7:42 AM

(NaturalNews) Popular prescription proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like AstraZeneca Plc's Nexium and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd's Prevacid will now contain new labels warning patients that long-term use may cause magnesium deficiency. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that the more than 21 million patients who take prescription PPIs for conditions like ulcers and acid reflux disease many need to cease use if magnesium supplementation does not correct the problem.

According to health officials, using prescription PPIs for as little as three months can lead to magnesium deficiency. Since most users take the drug for at least six months, the overall risk is high among users. At least 25 percent of patients who tried to take magnesium supplements as a remedy, however, were unsuccessful, resulting in them having to cease the medication altogether.

PPIs are among the most widely prescribed drugs for common ailments like indigestion and heartburn. A 2010 study published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine found that PPIs are highly over-prescribed, even though they are fraught with negative side effects like an increased risk of bone fractures and life-threatening infections (http://www.naturalnews.com/028878_p...).

Interestingly, prior to the FDA's recent announcement about PPIs and magnesium deficiency, the agency actually approved the drugs' use in young children with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Even though the drugs can cause an increase in heartburn, indigestion, and reflux symptoms following the discontinuation of their use, the FDA claims the drugs are safe for children as young as one year old.

Other prescription PPIs implicated in causing magnesium deficiency include Takeda's Dexilant, AstraZeneca's Prilosec and Vimova, Santarus Inc's Zegerid, Pfizer Inc's Protonix, Johnson & Johnson and Eisai Co Ltd's Aciphex, as well as generic varieties of many of these PPIs.

Vitamin D helps prevent multiple sclerosis

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:21 AM

(NaturalNews) For the first time, researchers have observed that having high vitamin D levels is clearly linked to warding off multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. Published in the American Academy of Neurology journal Neurology, the study found that having high vitamin D levels helps prevent the development of MS in those who are beginning to observe symptoms of its onset.

"Previous studies have found similar results, but this is the first study to look at people who have just had the first symptoms of MS and haven't even been diagnosed with the disease yet," said Robyn Lucas, Ph.D., from Australian National University in Canberra, author of the study. "Other studies have looked at people who already have MS -- then it's hard to know whether having the disease led them to change their habits in the sun or in their diet."

Lucas and her team evaluated 216 people between the ages of 18 and 59, all of which had experienced initial symptoms of MS. They compared them to 395 people with no symptoms of MS, but that were of similar ages, sexes, and backgrounds. After calculating sun exposure and vitamin D levels, the researchers observed that for each 1,000 kilojoules of ultraviolet (UV) exposure a person experiences, his or her risk of having an MS "first event" drops by 30 percent.

"Added together, the differences in sun exposure, vitamin D levels and skin type accounted for a 32 percent increase in a diagnosed first event from the low to the high latitude regions of Australia," added Lucas, in reference to the fact that higher cases of MS occur among populations that are further from the equator, and thus less exposed to vitamin D-producing sunlight.

Across the board, high levels of sunlight exposure were linked to a reduced risk of MS, indicating a clear connection between blood levels of vitamin D and risk of developing the disease. The study confirms a previous one published by researchers from both Oxford University and the University of British Columbia in 2009 that observed a connection between vitamin D deficiency and the onset of MS (http://www.naturalnews.com/025791.html).

Flu vaccines and neurological problems

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:16 AM

(NaturalNews) Neurological problems due to nerve damage after vaccination are a fairly common adverse event with flu vaccines. In 1976, there were more cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome reported after vaccination than there were confirmed cases of Swine flu.

Every vaccine on the market is associated with certain risks. Flu vaccines are no exception. As government agencies and medical authorities around the world urge entire populations to protect themselves from the latest strains of flu, little is said about the potential risks associated with this year's miracle cures.

The 1976 swine flu vaccination campaign was abruptly halted when 500 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) were diagnosed after vaccination. GBS is a rare, life threatening disease in which the body's immune system attacks peripheral nerves (those outside the brain and spinal cord) destroying the myelin sheath surrounding them. This destruction leads to a multitude of possible symptoms, usually beginning with weakness or tingling in the legs. The unusual sensations increase in intensity until the muscles can no longer be used. Symptoms progress rapidly toward the upper body, sometimes resulting in total paralysis and death.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is associated with several flu vaccines, the most common being swine flu vaccine. There is no cure for GBS, but therapy can sometimes lessen the severity and restore some of the original muscle function.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is considered to be a severe enough threat that prior to the 2009 flu season, the Health Protection Agency in the United Kingdom sent a warning letter to 600 neurologists throughout the country telling them to watch for GBS symptoms because it could be triggered by the swine flu vaccine. This letter sparked a huge protest when leaked to the public because the Health Protection Agency did nothing to warn the millions of potential recipients of the vaccine prior to their National Flu Vaccination Campaign. (See verification here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art....

Nerve damage resulting from flu vaccines can also present itself as Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). CIDP is closely related to GBS in the fact that it is also a result of nerve damage caused by destruction of the myelin sheaths surrounding peripheral nerves. CIDP also begins with unusual sensations in the arms and legs, progressive weakness and loss of muscle use. The only real difference between GBS and CIDP is the latter does not come on so suddenly and is a long-lasting or chronic condition.

On 1 February 2011, The Washington Post published, "Finland: link between swine flu shot, narcolepsy."? Narcolepsy is a rare neurological disorder that causes the brain to be unable to regulate a person's sleep cycles. A person with nerve damage causing this disorder could be talking to you and suddenly just fall asleep for a few seconds, minutes, or hours. Of the 60 young people in Finland who were diagnosed with this disorder during the 2009 flu season, almost 90 percent had recently received a vaccine to combat the flu. (for more information see: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn....

It seems medical consumers are left with a serious question. Is it better to take your chances with the flu, or take your chances with a flu vaccine?

SaneVax believes only Safe, Affordable, Necessary & Effective vaccines and vaccination practices should be offered to the public. Our primary goal is to provide scientific information/resources for those concerned about vaccine safety, efficacy and need.

Homeopathy for children's emotional health

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:12 AM

(NaturalNews) Most parents would never think of giving a child Valium or Prozac. We know their physical bodies are too delicate, but their emotional life is also very delicate. Yet they are subject to much of the same stresses as adults and need safe remedies to help support their nervous systems.

Homeopathy is the fastest growing over-the-counter therapy in the United States and its remedies provide a therapy that can spare them needless emotional suffering in an effective and harmless form.

We are living in an age where drugs are given to children like candy. However, as parents, you can use homeopathy to help balance you child's emotional distress so they will never have to be experimented on with harmful drugs. Here is an overview of homeopathic remedies for your child's emotional health.

The dosage for these remedies is 6X or 12X. Homeopathic remedies come as lactose pellets or in liquid drops. They are taken 2-3 times a day for several days. If they don't seem to be working after several days, stop the drops and try another one.

Anger
Chamomile is for finicky anger. The child is fine one moment and angry the next. Lachesis is for the anger of jealousy. This child is critical, suspicious, contradictory and oversensitive. Natrum mur is for the child who is very sensitive and gets angry and bursts into tears at any imagined slight. Nux vomica is used for great irritability which leads to headaches and stomach upsets with great sensitivity to noises, bright lights and smells. Staphasagria is for suppressed anger and humiliation causing headaches.

Anxiety
Children express a particular type of anxiety that can be called acute anticipation. Aconite is for chronic fright and fearfulness. Calc carb is for children who overwork and overload themselves with tasks and anticipate problems. Gelsemium is for acute anticipation or for a child who has never felt well since a particular frightful event. Lycopodium is for children who will do anything to avoid humiliation and embarrassment or who have not been well since such an event. Silicea is for children who fear that they will not have enough energy and constantly moan and whine that they are unable to get things done.

Hyperactivity
This condition is often misdiagnosed in a child who is just too bright and active for the adult caregivers in charge. It may be due to food allergies, too much sugar in the diet or lack of attention and discipline. Argentum nitricum is used for the hyperactive child with a sweet tooth. The child seems to have a high metabolic rate and is thin, pale, anxious and can't sit still. Calc phos is suited to the child who likes to play pranks but is still shy and afraid. Physically there are swollen tonsils and abdominal gas. Chamomilla is used to calm the excessively agitated child who cannot sit still for one minute and literally wears himself out to the point of tears. Kali bromatum is for the case of the child who is constantly using his hands in some form and cannot keep them still. Lycopodium is used for the child who is exhausted but still can't sit still. There is irritability and restlessness, mostly around dinnertime, and lots of gastric distress. Stramonium is used for a severe case of hyperactivity with violence. There is a characteristic loud and frenetic speech pattern.

Lack of Confidence
The following are constitutional remedies that are given to restore lost confidence in a child. As the parent or caregiver you may work with a homeopathic doctor on the treatment of these difficult issues. Anacardium is for lack of confidence due to abuse or physical humiliation. The child becomes hard and cold, has no feeling and may become emotionally cold and viokent. Gelsemium is for poor confidence due to anticipatory anxiety, weakness, illness or fright. Lycopodium is for poor confidence due to fear of being in public, having been embarrassed in the past. Natrum mur is for fear of being rejected. Staphasagria is for poor confidence due to being humiliated. There is deep anger but the child will do anything to please.

Sadness
Children get sad for many of the same reasons that adults do. The following remedies can treat the effects of a loss in the family due to death of a family member including the family pet, for separation due to illness or divorce or for disappointment. Aurum is for the loss of a very close relative to whom the child was extremely attached. When this relationship is lost, the child feels there is nothing to live for. Ignatia is for acute, sudden, overwhelming, shocking grief; the child can't understand and can't believe what has happened. Natrum mur is for a child who is emotionally open and whose heart is broken. At that point she gets stuck there and shuts down emotionally and becomes both guilty and resentful. Phosphoric acid is for treating a big grief. The child has emotional and physical symptoms of loss of energy, debility and apathy. Pulsatilla is for abandonment with grief and sadness and gentle weeping.

Glass of red wine a day 'treats diabetes by helping body regulate blood sugar levels

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:08 AM

You could derive a natural extract from grape skins for the treatment of diabetes,' Professor Alois Jungbauer said. 'Also, this is further scientific evidence that a small amount of wine really is beneficial for health.'

Previous research involving thousands of people has shown that moderate drinking of alcohol can reduce the risk of diabetes type 2, he said. 'Moderate is the equivalent of a small glass each day for women, and two for men,' he added. 'Our big problem is to convey the message of a healthy lifestyle because too much wine will cause diabetes and obesity. 'If you have wine then you must reduce your intake of calories from food by the same amount.'

But Dr Iain Frame, director of research at Diabetes UK was critical of Prof Jungbauer's conclusions.
'It is very difficult to see how this limited research will have any benefit to people with Type 2 diabetes. It is a basic study into the chemistry of red wine and has no clinical relevance at this stage,' he said.

'The researchers have made an astonishingly bold suggestion based on the results of their research suggesting that a very small glass of red wine may be beneficial to people with Type 2 diabetes. This assumption is fundamentally wrong based on the evidence presented from this research.
'Previous studies have demonstrated potential health benefits from chemicals isolated from red wine. However the alcohol in wine is high in calories and can lead to weight gain, which can outweigh the benefits of these chemicals.'

A small glass of red wine every day could keep adult diabetes under control, scientists claimed last night.  A new study found that the drink contains high concentrations of chemicals that help the body regulate levels of sugar in the blood. Just a small glass of red contained as many of these active ingredients as a daily dose of an anti-diabetic drug, the researchers found.

Although the study didn't look at the effects of wine on people, its authors believe moderate drinking as part of a calorie controlled diet could protect against type 2 diabetes. However, their conclusions angered Diabetes UK who accused the researchers of making 'astonishingly bold suggestions' based on 'limited research'. The charity warned that wine was so high in calories it could lead to weight gain - outweighing any benefit.

Around 2.6million people suffer from type 2 diabetes in Britain. The disease occurs when the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin - the hormone that regulates blood sugar - or when its insulin does not work properly.

High levels of sugar in the blood can cause tiredness, heart disease, strokes, blindness, nerve damage and kidney disease. Past studies have shown that natural chemicals found grape skin and wine called polyphenols can help the body control glucose levels, and prevent potentially dangerous spikes or dips in blood sugar.

The new study compared the polyphenol content of 12 different wine varieties. The team, from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, found that levels were higher in red wines.

The scientists then studied how these polyphenols interact with cells in the human body, focussing on a particular 'receptor - or molecule that sits on the surface of cells - called PPAR-gamma - involved in the development of fat cells, energy storage and the regulation of blood sugar.

The authors showed that polyphenols in wine bind to the receptor and that a small glass of wine contains enough to rival the activity of the potent diabetes drug Avandia. The researchers who report the findings in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Food and Function believe moderate red wine consumption could have benefits for diabetics.

Chiropractic boosts brain-body coordination

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 12:10 PM

The brain is the master control system for the entire body. It sends and receives a complicated frequency of signals with the body that dictate the function of the body. When there is interference in this neurological feedback loop, it alters the environment the brain perceives itself to be in; this consequently changes the adaptation process the brain orchestrates throughout the body. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to enhance the sensorimotor integration of the brain with the body.

Many experts have hypothesized that increased stress cycles in the body produce the environment for dis-ease and eventually disease within the body. Stress can come from a variety of sources in the mental/emotional form, chemical form, and physical realm. When the body is under increased stress it responds by increasing its sympathetic tone. This means the body shunts itself into "fight or flight" survival based mode by altering cardiovascular & endocrine function to get itself ready for dynamic activity.

Increased sympathetic tone causes a release of stress hormones such as adrenalin, epinephrine, and cortisol. This is the same response we get when we are anxious or exercising. This is okay if it is for a short period of time; however, when the stress lasts longer than expected it exhausts the body and causes a state of dis-ease to manifest.

When the brain sends information to the organs, muscles, and tissues of the body, this is called efferent neurological flow. In return, the afferent flow of information includes all the messages sent to the brain from skin, muscle, joint, and organ receptors. This afferent/efferent neurological loop is how the body is able to respond and adapt appropriately to its environment.

The ramifications of increased stress hormones in the body include overworked adrenal glands, lowered immunity, decreased digestive functions, fatigue, & blood pressure disturbances. Increased cortisol levels also cause ligament laxity by stripping critical proteins from the tendon and ligament structures. This causes joint weakness throughout the body, including the spine and extremities, making them much more susceptible to injury.

Subluxation is a term used to describe mechanical compression and irritation to spinal joints and nerves. Subluxation scrambles the neurological feedback loop by causing altered rhythms of neurological flow. Subluxations are caused by trauma, poor posture, or increased chemical and emotional stresses.

Subluxations are a physical stress on the body and therefore increase the sympathetic tone, so the body shunts its energy toward the fight or flight system. If the subluxation(s) are not corrected they continue to produce this increased stress response. This increases cortisol and causes greater joint & ligament laxity in the spine and extremities making them more susceptible to injury. Additionally, increased long-term stress on the body greatly accelerates the degenerative processes of the spine and joints leading to osteoarthritis.

Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to normalize spinal afferent/efferent processes to their proper resting tone. This is like hitting the reset button on the computer when it is malfunctioning. The computer is allowed to pause and reprocess itself. Chiropractic adjustments stop the stress response and restore normal hormonal and cardiovascular function to the body. This allows the body to reset itself and begin healing the damage that was done in the body due to chronic stress cycles.

Research performed by Taylor and Murphy demonstrated that chiropractic adjustments enhanced sensorimotor integration, the body's ability to sense where it is in space and effectively coordinate complex movement patterns. This improves function in both the brain and the body. Improved spatial intelligence translates into better physical and mental balance, coordination, and mobility. Chiropractic adjustments make you think and move with better speed, skill, and finesse.

Lack of vitamins C and E linked to metabolic syndrome

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 12:04 PM

(NaturalNews) What do millions of Americans who have plenty to eat have in common with poverty level Ecuadorians consuming a limited diet? A lot, when it comes to poor health. A new epidemiological study has revealed that low-income, older residents of Ecuador have high rates of metabolic syndrome -- a cluster of conditions including high blood pressure, elevated insulin and cholesterol levels, and excess fat around the middle -- just like countless folks in the U.S. who consume too much junk food and too little fruits and vegetables.

Researchers from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University and the Corporacion Ecuatoriana de Biotecnologia found that metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, was wide-spread in a low-income urban community in Ecuador. The scientists believe a diet low in micronutrients and especially lacking vitamins C and E is the cause.

The investigators reached this conclusion after studying the relationship between metabolic syndrome and micronutrients such as folate, zinc and vitamins C, B12 and E. They enrolled 225 women and 127 men, all 65 or older, who lived in three low-income neighborhoods on the outskirts of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. During biweekly interviews, the research subjects reported what they ate and they also provided blood samples.

Using the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) definition of metabolic syndrome, the research team found that 40% of the research participants had metabolic syndrome, with far more women (81%) having the condition compared to men (18%). The scientists believe this is because the women in the study group tended to be more obese than their male counterparts.

"In this population of low-income Ecuadorians, we observed a pattern of high carbohydrate, high sodium diets lacking in healthy fats and good sources of protein. Our blood analyses indicate a significant number of participants weren't consuming enough of a range of micronutrients," senior author Simin Nikbin Meydani, PhD, DVM, director of the USDA HNRCA and the Nutritional Immunology Laboratory at the USDA HNRCA said in a statement to the media. "After adjusting for age and sex, we observed significant relationships between the metabolic syndrome and two of the micronutrients, vitamins C and E." Dr. Meydania added that having higher blood levels of vitamin E may offer protection from metabolic syndrome.

The low blood levels of vitamin C, found in 82% of the participants, are believed to be the result of not eating enough fresh fruits and vegetables. Instead, the research subjects lived mostly off white rice, potatoes, sugar and white bread. The researchers found that, overall, 55% of the women and 33% of the men were overweight.

While the study of older, poor and urban Ecuadorians, which was just published online in the journal Public Health Nutrition, does not directly discuss the U.S. epidemic of metabolic syndrome, the research bolsters the idea you can be fat and yet malnourished -- as are countless American junk food junkies of all ages -- and that can result in poor health.

"With high-calorie foods lacking essential nutrients serving as pillars of the diet, it is possible to be both overweight and malnourished," stated Dr. Meydani, who is a professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University. "Our data suggests that limited consumption of nutrient dense foods such as chicken, vegetables and legumes makes this small population of Ecuadorian elders even more susceptible to the metabolic syndrome."

Dr. Meydani's research team concluded that sound nutrition was the best strategy for curbing the growing metabolic syndrome risk in Latin America. "Presently, there are about 59 million Latin American and Caribbean men and women over the age of 60 and the United Nations predicts the population will reach 101 billion by 2025,"Dr. Meydani said. "Medical resources are minimal in developing countries and those that are in place are usually not directed toward older adults. Nutrition interventions, such as encouraging older adults to consume more nutrient dense foods, for example, locally grown produce, could reduce the strain on the health care system.".

vaccines Are MMR vaccines dangerous for children? Dr Suzanne Humphries urges parents to get informed

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 11:58 AM

(NaturalNews) Are routine vaccines dangerous for children? Dr Suzanne Humphries, a practicing nephrologist (kidney physician) says the vaccine industry isn't giving people both sides of the story, and parents need to get informed before subjecting their children to vaccines that can potentially cause serious harm or even death.
In that interview, you'll hear Dr Humphries talk about:

• Why she became concerned about vaccines after noticing kidney failure in patients who recently received vaccines.

• Why vaccines are often contaminated with unknown viral strains, and why the vaccine industry has covered up known vaccine contamination (and knowingly sold contaminated vaccines to be used on the public).

• Why the entire vaccine industry needs to be questioned, and why a new effort is needed to scientifically assess whether vaccines are really safe or effective.

• Why the fairy tale that "vaccines eradicated polio" is a false mythology -- here's what really happened.

• Why the "smallpox" vaccine has never been proven to be effective against smallpox at all.

• Why vaccine industry research is extremely flimsy and ignores rigorous standards of scientific evidence. (Using improper placebos designed to minimize the appearance of side effects, for example.)

• Why the vaccine industry won't test vaccines versus unvaccinated children (they're terrified of the results).

• Why children caught up in outbreaks of measles are often the very same children who were vaccinated against measles!

• Why vaccines may actually suppress the immune system and cause increased vulnerability to future infections.

• Why many childhood infections such as chicken pox are perfectly natural, normal and even HEALTHY.

• Why the outlandish and unscientific behavior of the vaccine industry is causing an erosion of credibility across all "science."

• Why many of the people engaged in pushing vaccines have financial ties to vaccine companies.

• Why the vaccine industry is utterly unwilling to tolerate anyone asking intelligent questions about the safety of vaccines.

Dr Humphries is one of the signers of the groundbreaking new document just released by the International Medical Council on Vaccination, called VACCINES: Get the Full Story: http://www.naturalnews.com/Vaccines...

The Single Most Important Element for Your Health (Video)

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 5:27 PM

(Mercola.com) Water is clearly one of the most important factors in terms of what you put into your body, simply because without it you will die within a few short days. You may know that two-thirds of your body is water, but did you know that in terms of the number of molecules, your body actually consists of over 99 percent water molecules!

Astounding, isn't it? For years, Dr. Pollack had been doing research on muscles and how they contract, but it struck him as odd that the most common ideas about muscle contraction do not involve water, despite muscle tissue consisting of 99 percent water molecules.

"So I became interested in water," Dr. Pollack says. "We've been doing research in my laboratory at the University of Washington for some 10 years now on water. The book that I wrote in 2001, it's called Cells, Gels, and the Engines of Life, talks about the role of water in cell biology. Water is absolutely central."

Yet textbooks by and large completely ignore the presence of water in your organs, muscles and tissues. Dr. Pollack's book addresses this discrepancy and brings to the fore the role of water.

"The central message of that book is that if you don't understand how water interacts with the components of the cell, you haven't a clue of how the cell works," he says.

Interestingly enough, if you're like most people, you probably think we've got water all figured out. But according to Dr. Pollack, this is far from true. In fact, "those in the field know that it's absolutely not true. We haven't a clue how water works," he says. So here we are in 2011, and even now leading scientists like Dr. Pollack are just starting to pick at the tip of the iceberg in terms of understanding the foundational basis of water!

"In our lab, we've been focusing mainly on water structure near interfaces. Your body, of course, is filled with interfaces. Inside the cell, it's mainly proteins, nucleic acids, and salts. They're all interfacing with water," Dr. Pollack says.

"So the central question is: what happens when water interfaces with those constituents? Does it change? Does it remain the same? This is where we've made some important discoveries."
Highlights of a Decade's Worth of Research into Water

Dr. Pollack's research has uncovered some interesting surprises. "The chemistry book says, if you have a charged interface, or so-called hydrophilic (water-loving) interface (which most of the constituents in your cell are), the current view is that a few water molecules might actually line up and become ordered. But this is considered a secondary effect, -- not very important for understanding of how cells function. What we found is that instead of two or three molecular layers, the ordering of water can actually amount to a few million molecular layers.

In other words, the water at interfaces can order in a macroscopic way. Is a really huge amount of this kind of water, and its properties are so different that it looks like a distinct phase of water."

So, what does this mean, in terms of affecting human biology?

If you think of the cell as a matrix of proteins, like a grid made up of proteins and nucleic acids, the spaces in between those grids are filled with water. This means there are a lot of surfaces that interact with water and impact its structure. Your cells consist mainly of this interfacial, or structured/ordered water, making it essential to understand this water in order to understand the workings of the cell.

This is not a new idea. It's been known for years, although the information has largely fallen out of view and been forgotten. One of the pioneers in this area is a Chinese-American researcher Gilbert Ling, who wrote several books on the central importance of water in the cell.

So, water is actually part of the structure of each cell. In addition to the fact that this water is interfacing and is ordered, it is also charged. And the water just beyond it is oppositely charged. This acts like a battery.

Dr. Pollack explains: "In your cells are multiple batteries with plus and minus charges, separated... The question is, how are these batteries charged?

The charge comes from incident radiant energy; light, heat, ultraviolet. All of these absorbed energies separate the charge. The energy that's coming in from outside builds this charge separation and order. This potential energy fills your cells. I think this energy is critical to an understanding of how your cells work."

In a nutshell, the water in each of your cells achieves its ordered structure from energy obtained from the environment, typically in the form of electromagnetic radiation, including sunlight and infrared heat.

How the Water in Your Cells Impacts Your Health

You may have heard about "structured water" before. Many are quite skeptical, and some don't even believe it exists, let alone that it has any value. But it's important when trying to find high quality water. Water filtration processes used to clean our water supply frequently de-structures the water, so the question is whether or not this matters. Dr. Pollack explains this challenging concept in the following lecture:

"In terms of the water that we drink, it's really a complicated issue," Dr. Pollack admits.

But "the water inside your cells is absolutely critical for your health. If you have a pathology of an organ, it's not only the proteins inside that organ that are not working, but also the water inside that organ. That near-protein water is not ordered in the way it should be.

So what you want to do is reestablish a kind of "ordering."

What this means is that if you don't have properly structured water in your cells, it can impact the functioning of the much larger protein molecules (and others) that are interfacing with it.

In fact, the protein molecule in your cells cannot be viewed as just a molecule by itself. It's actually the molecule PLUS the water. These two factors together form the "entity" of the molecule in question.

"If you need that entity to function properly--take a muscle for example—if the muscle is not functioning, it's the protein and the water that are not functioning," Dr. Pollack explains. "You need plenty of this ordered/structured water and proteins in their right form in order to make the muscle function properly. So if you have a muscle injury then both are not functioning."

So, how do you restore it?
Restructuring Water in Your Cells Creates Tissue Healing.  Classically, one way of doing it is to use infrared radiation (heat). By applying heat to the muscle, you increase blood supply, which is helpful. But you're also building water structure! Dr. Pollack's research shows that infrared heat is very effective for ordering cellular water. In terms of the source of the infrared heat, as long as it emits the right wavelength of radiation, it will be effective. According to Dr. Pollack, the wavelength of 3 micrometers (microns) is ideal and very effective.

The sun also emits this wavelength, which may be yet another reason why sun exposure has such profound health benefits and just feels good through and through. Interestingly, the human body also emits radiation within the ideal range, which may explain why simple physical contact, including 'hands-on healing,' can contribute to improved health!

"I know there is a lot of skepticism about that," Dr. Pollack says, "but from a physical point of view, it's entirely possible."

Another way to structure water is to use light.

The visible light spectrum, ultraviolet (UV) and near infrared also builds ordered water zones. Again, light therapy has been used for years to remedy various maladies, such as depression and jaundice, for example. But it's only now that scientists are beginning to understand why such therapies work.

Clearly, one of the primary health benefits of sun exposure and UVB's is that it makes your body create vitamin D, which we now realize is absolutely crucial for optimal health. But the fact that it also helps structure the water within your cells may be yet another contributing factor. After all, your body is a conglomerate of symbiotic relationships.
Should You Drink Structured Water?

This is still a question open for debate. However, Dr. Pollack believes that if you're able to drink structured water, it would be good for your health. Interestingly, certain waters, such as the "healing water" from the Ganges and Lourdes, for example, have been studied and found to have the signature of the structured water found in cells.

"In other words, there was a particular absorption of energy at a particular wavelength that's absolutely characteristic of the structured water," Dr. Pollack says.

"That makes me think that there is a good possibility that the water really has the capability of retaining that structure over a long time… Therefore, it's possible that if you drink water that has this structure, it might be good for your health."

The second issue is: what happens when you swallow it? Does it still have the proper structure by the time it's absorbed in your intestines? According to Dr. Pollack, this question has yet to be answered and needs to be studied further.

One thing that is known is that structured water tends to stay together.

"For example, if you eat Jell-O, Jell-O is just filled with this kind of water," Dr. Pollack says. "The reason why the water doesn't dribble out of the Jell-O is because it sticks together into this liquid crystalline-structured fashion.

So it's possible that when you swallow properly structured water… it might be preserved. If this structure is then absorbed into your intestines then it's possible it can be retained all the way into your cells. It's also possible that it's the charge within the ordered water that really matters.

Structured water contains charge, negative charge usually. It's possible that what you're really doing is absorbing the negative charge, and that negative charge is critical for building the structure. That's another possible route."

Structuring and Destructuring Water—How is it Done?

Another open question is how you might de-structure water, which is what Dr. Pollack's team is currently exploring. It's unclear whether boiling, for example, can de-structure the water, or whether in fact it might help add structure… On the flip side is the question of how to reintroduce structure to water. I've often recommended two simple approaches to restructure water:
Cooling it to about 39 degrees Fahrenheit
Stirring the water with a spoon in a circular jar to create a vortex

Dr. Pollack agrees. Water cooled to around 39 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 10 degrees Centigrade, does increase structure.

"We're studying the effects of temperature on the water structure that we see next to these hydrophilic surfaces," Dr. Pollack says. "It does look as though when you reduce the temperature, this area of structure increases. In fact, we're studying the possibility that the structured water is actually an intermediate between water and ice. It's possible that the real structure of this structured water, if you will, is very much like ice—not quite, but almost."

As for restructuring water by creating vortices, Viktor Schauberger is recognized as one of the leaders in this area. This technique is also used when making homeopathic remedies.

Dr. Pollack explains why this technique works:

"If you think of a vortex, what happens? Well, the vortex is a kind of mechanical perturbation or agitation. Probably it builds bubbles—little air bubbles that are deeply involved or enveloped into the vortex.

If these bubbles contain an envelope of structured water, then vortexing would be a very powerful way of increasing structure. So I think that is another way of increase. Both of those ideas: reducing the temperature and vortexing, probably do lead to increased water structure."

Researchers have also investigated what happens to the structure of water when you run an electrical current through it.

"If you put a negative electrode right next to structured water, the structured region grows, but with a positive electrode it diminishes," Dr. Pollack explains. "So this structured water is just filled with charge. It's not free charge, its charges that are fixed at points in a very tight matrix--something like a semi-conductor. But it can build, and the source from which it builds is water, ordinary bulk water.

… So yeah, if you put an electrode in, it does work. It has a powerful effect… In the experiments we've done, it's just a matter of 5-10 volts… We haven't studied it in enough detail how much voltage you really need to put on to be effective. That needs to be done in the future. There are pilot experiments that we've done and we haven't published them yet."
The Connection Between Structured Water and the Practice of Earthing

Dr. Pollack also offers some fascinating insights into the technique of earthing, or grounding—the simple act of walking barefoot to "ground" with the Earth. The scientific theory behind the health benefits seen from this simple practice is that your body absorbs negative electrons from the Earth through the soles of your feet.

Interestingly, Pollack adds support to this idea by explaining how the Earth is negatively charged, so when you ground, you're connecting your body to a negatively charged supply of energy. And since the Earth has a greater negative charge than your body, you end up absorbing electrons from it.

These negatively charged electrons may then help increase the structure of the water in your cells—just as water increases in structure when a negative charge is introduced with an electrode. Dr. Pollack is a wealth of information, and our interview covers far more than what I've summarized above. I highly recommend listening to the entire interview or reading through the transcript for even more information on this important topic.

88% Beef? What in the heck is the other 12%?

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 5:17 PM

(NaturalNews) The word spread like wildfire across the internet: An Alabama law firm had filed a class action lawsuit against Taco Bell in California, saying its meat fails to meet the definition of beef set forth by the U.S. government (and even that's a pretty low hurdle, if you ask me). The lawsuit claims Taco Bell's meat cannot be honestly advertised as "beef" because it claims tests showed the meat was only 35% beef, not the 70% beef required by federal standards.

"It's mainly soy and oats, and there's lots of other stuff in there that I don't even know how to pronounce," said attorney Dee Miles.

Taco Bell responded quickly, saying their meat was "88% beef" and that they buy the same brand of beef sold in supermarkets -- Tyson Foods.

Oh well, that clears it all up, then. Tyson Foods.

And what's the other 12%? According to Taco Bell, it's water, spices, oats, starch and "other ingredients" that the restaurant says contribute to the "quality" of its beef. Apparently, Taco Bell believes the way to enhance the quality of beef is to throw in things that are not beef.

So what else might be found in that "other ingredients" category? A quick look at Taco Bell's own website reveals the restaurant uses all the following ingredients in its various menu offerings:

• Autolyzed Yeast Extract (which contains MSG, an excitotoxin)
• Red #40, Blue #1, Yellow #6 artificial colors
• Corn syrup solids
• Partially Hydrogenated Corn Oil
• Soy Protein
• Propylene Glycol Alginate
• Dimethylpolysiloxane (an anti-foaming chemical)

How Cinnamon Helps Prevent Diabetes

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 5:12 PM

(NaturalNews) A growing body of research suggests that the common spice cinnamon can help prevent and regulate diabetes.

Cinnamon is derived from the inner bark of Cinnamomum trees, and has a long history as a culinary and medicinal plant. Its uses in traditional medicine include the treatment of colds, congestion and diarrhea, and modern science has found that it is high in antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases and slow the progress of aging. More specifically, the spice appears promising in the fight against diabetes.

"Not only does cinnamon activate essential enzymes in the body thus stimulating the receptors in the cells so they will respond more efficiently to insulin, but it also inhibits the enzymes responsible for deactivating ... causing insulin resistance," writes David W Tanton in the book "Antidepressants, Antipsychotics, And Stimulants -- Dangerous Drugs on Trial."

"Cinnamon bark actually contains calcium, chromium, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and vitamins A, Bi, B2, and C, many of which are important for the prevention or treatment of diabetes."

One review of eight studies conducted on humans concluded that cinnamon is effective at reducing blood glucose levels both between and after meals, and that supplementation may help reduce complications from diabetes.

One study, for example, found that cinnamon supplements led to lower fasting blood glucose and increased antioxidant activity. Another found that supplementation improved fasting glucose and insulin response, but that these improvements vanished when supplementation ended. In another study, cinnamon supplementation reduced not just fasting blood glucose levels, but also overall body fat percentage. It also led to an increase in lean muscle mass.

Cinnamon has even outperformed pharmaceuticals. In a study published in the "Journal of Diabetic Medicine," participants given cinnamon supplements experienced greater improvement in blood sugar levels than participants given standard diabetes drugs.

Even for those interested in pursuing cinnamon supplementation, the best way to prevent and manage Type 2 diabetes is still to maintain a healthy body weight, eat a healthy diet low in refined sugar and high in natural fiber, and exercise regularly.

Spanish Study: Eating Foods High in Trans-Fats and Saturated Fats Increases the Risk of Depression

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 5:08 PM

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Eating foods high in trans-fats and saturated fats increases the risk of depression, according to a Spanish study published in the US Wednesday, confirming previous studies that linked "junk food" with the disease.

Researchers also showed that some products, such as olive oil, which is high in healthy omega-9 fatty acids, can fight against the risk of mental illness.

Authors of the wide-reaching study, from the universities of Navarra and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, followed and analyzed the diet and lifestyle of over 12,000 volunteers over six years.

When the study began, none of the participants had been diagnosed with depression; by the end, 657 of them were new sufferers.

"Participants with an elevated consumption of trans-fats (fats present in artificial form in industrially-produced pastries and fast food...) presented up to a 48 percent increase in the risk of depression when they were compared to participants who did not consume these fats," the head study author said.

Almudena Sanchez-Villegas, associate professor of preventive medicine at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also noted that in the event "more trans-fats were consumed, the greater the harmful effect they produced in the volunteers."

The research team found, at the same time, that after assessing the impact of polyunsaturated fats -- composed of larger amounts of fish and vegetable oils -- and olive oil, these products "are associated with a lower risk of suffering depression."

The report, published in the online journal PLoS ONE, noted the research was performed on a European population that enjoys a relatively low intake of trans-fats -- making up only 0.4 percent "of the total energy ingested by the volunteers."

"Despite this, we observed an increase in the risk of suffering depression of nearly 50 percent," said researcher Miguel Martinez.

"On this basis we derive the importance of taking this effect into account in countries like the US, where the percentage of energy derived from these fats is around 2.5 percent."

The report pointed out that the current number of depression sufferers in the world is around 150 million people, and has increased in recent years.

This rise is attributable, according to the authors, "to radical changes in the sources of fats consumed in Western diets, where we have substituted certain types of beneficial fats -- polyunsaturated and monounsaturated in nuts, vegetable oils and fish -- for the saturated and trans-fats found in meats, butter and other products such as mass-produced pastries and fast food."

Though not a focus of the study, researchers pointed out that deadly cardiovascular disease is "influenced in a similar manner by diet, and might share similar mechanisms in their origin."

Healing with far Infrared Therapy

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:22 AM

(NaturalNews) Far Infrared Therapy utilizes light wavelengths below the frequency of visible red light. Though the light is not visible to the human eye, it can be felt as heat. Used in radiant heating units in homes, Far Infrared (FIR) penetrates below the skin and can be used as a medical therapy.

Medical Uses of Far Infrared Therapy
FIR therapy is light or heat therapy that has been found to increase blood flow and white blood cell function. FIR light helps remove toxins from the body and speeds the healing of tissues. FIR increases the metabolic rate and stimulates the hypothalamus. The FDA has approved far infrared lights to warm newborn infants in hospitals. The toxins in silicon breast implants may be removed by use of FIR therapy. FIR therapy creates a low fever state, with a one to three degree rise in body temperature. This stimulates the production of white blood cells and killer T cells, thereby improving immunity.

Diseases Treated by Far Infrared Therapy
Many diseases respond to FIR therapy. Arthritis, bursitis and rheumatism are improved by the heat element. Far infrared helps burn calories and reduce obesity. FIR has been shown to reduce symptoms of Raynaud's syndrome, Lupus, and Chronic Fatigue.

Mechanism of Healing in Far Infrared
The human body is capable of absorbing infrared light wavelengths between 3 and 50 microns. The most beneficial have been found to be the waves between 6 and 14 microns, with the best absorption rate at 9.4 microns. The light rays penetrate into the body to a depth of three inches, providing deep heating to muscles and organs. The light dilates blood vessels, thereby increasing oxygen flow to the joints and muscles and reducing pain. Improved blood flow to the lymph reduces inflammation.

Heavy Metals Eliminated by Far Infrared Therapy
When the body is exposed to 9.4 microns of far infrared waves, the water molecules in the body vibrate. The vibration causes the ion bonds to break down, allowing for the trapped gases of toxins such as carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide to be eliminated. Claims have been made FIR therapy can remove a wide variety of metals from the body, including lead, arsenic, mercury, copper, cadmium, urea, nicotine, and the residue of prescription drugs.

Breast cancer breakthrough: vitamin D in combination with sun exposure is key to prevention

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 8:17 AM

(NaturalNews) As NaturalNews has covered for years, researchers have found a profound link between breast cancer and low levels of vitamin D. Women with the lowest blood levels have the highest breast cancer risk and those dying of metastasized disease are the most vitamin D deficient of all. Scientists have theorized vitamin D has anti-cancer properties that influence cell growth, healthy cell differentiation and programmed cell death (apoptosis).

However, when researchers have looked only at levels of dietary vitamin D intake and breast cancer risk, their findings have been sometimes inconsistent. So what is going on here? Does vitamin D definitely have the potential to prevent breast malignancies or not? A large and potentially groundbreaking French study appears to have the answer: the key to breast cancer prevention may well be taking higher amounts of vitamin D through diet and supplements combined with regular, direct sunshine exposure.

The new research, headed by Dr. Pierre Engel from INSERM (Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale, which is France's equivalent to the National Institutes of Health in the U.S.), investigated data combined from a large, decade long study involving 67,721 post-menopausal French women. The analysis came up with clear, startling evidence that while vitamin D plays a role in reducing the risk of breast cancer, the addition of adequate sunshine exposure is the factor that substantially drops the risk even more.

The scientists found that women living in the sunniest places in the south of France, such as Provence, had only about half the risk of breast cancer of women residing in less sunny latitudes, such as Paris. Even women who had the lowest vitamin D intake but who got lots of sunshine had a 32 percent lower risk of breast cancer than their counterparts living in less sunny latitudes of France. What's more, the women who consumed the most dietary vitamin D from foods and supplements and who had regular, generous sun exposure had the most significant protection from developing breast cancer.

In their research paper, which was just published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention, the French team concluded that a minimum threshold of vitamin D obtained from both sunshine and diet "..is required to prevent breast cancer and this threshold is particularly difficult to reach in postmenopausal women at northern latitudes where quality of sunlight is too poor for adequate vitamin D production."

They also noted that the minimal intake of vitamin D to reduce the risk of breast cancer is likely to vary with an individual woman's ability to metabolize or synthesize the vitamin from both diet and sunshine exposure. Adding that the average American and French woman has relative low levels of vitamin D and tends to get little exposure to sunshine, the scientists recommended "...an increase in overall vitamin D intake should be encouraged by food and health agencies."

Cordless Phone EMFs Trigger Heart Rhythm Abnormalities

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 10:37 AM

The researchers demonstrated that 40 percent of healthy volunteers in their study showed marked increases in heart rate, arrhythmias, and other disturbances in heart rate variability following exposure to active cordless phone base stations.

An international team of researchers recently discovered that in some individuals, the 2.4 GHz pulsed signals emitted by a cordless phone system produce significant disruptions in cardiac rhythm.

Many wireless routers and other forms of Wi-Fi technology also emit fields at this frequency.

Holistic Primary Care reports:
"This is the first objective evidence of cardiovascular effects associated with wireless EMF exposure, and it lends quantitative vindication to the concept of 'electrohypersensitivity,' the sense some people have that they become physically ill when close to EMF fields from cell phones, microwave ovens, computers, fluorescent lighting systems, and WiFi networks."

Vitamin D intake from food may prevent or improve cognitive function

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 10:32 AM

In this large population-based study recently published in Neurology, researchers highlight a growing interest in the literature exploring the role of vitamin D as a neurosteroid hormone in the nervous system, and its influence in cognitive function and/or neurodysfunction. Investigators note current research suggests that vitamin D supplementation may be especially helpful to deficient elderly patients, possibly maintaining or improving global cognitive function. Because no randomized controlled trials have tested this possibility, the authors of this study suggested that before conducting a supplement drug trial it is important to first assess whether vitamin D from food – and not supplements - could be associated with cognitive performance in the elderly.

Annweiler C. et al “hypothesized that high dietary intake of vitamin D could protect against cognitive decline.” They tested their hypothesis among two groups of older women participating in the Epide´miologie de l’Oste´oporose (EPIDOS) cohort. A total of 5,596 women participated, divided into two groups based on their baseline weekly vitamin D intake from food (inadequate < 35 ug/wk & recommended ≥ 35 ug/wk). Intake was estimated based on a food frequency questionnaire, and cognitive impairment was scored via a validated mental state questionnaire. Sun exposure, season, depression, education, age and many other potential confounders were considered in the statistical analysis. Notably, women were excluded from the study if they consumed vitamin D supplements in the previous 18 months.

Ruling out potential confounders, the central finding of this study was that weekly vitamin D intake from food sources was significantly associated with overall cognitive performance; women with inadequate dietary intakes of vitamin D had a greater prevalence of cognitive impairment. Among several explanations the authors discuss, one explanation of the observed associations between vitamin D intake and cognitive decline may have to do with the nature of food. Citing two other studies, they write, “Nutrition indeed integrates complex interactive effects of many dietary constituents. Nutrients are not consumed in isolation but rather as components of an overall diet, which is precisely considered as a modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline.”

In order to establish causality and accurately determine mechanisms of action Annweiler C. et al encourage prospective nutrition studies and clinical trials “to assess a direct effect of vitamin D intake on cognitive decline.”

FDA warns of thigh fractures with bone drugs

Posted by Eveningred Chiropractic On 10:27 AM

(NaturalNews) A class of widely prescribed osteoporosis drugs may significantly increase the risk of a rare type of thigh fracture, the FDA has warned.

The FDA ordered a new warning label for all drugs in the bisphosphonate family, including Merck's Fosamax (marketed generically as alendronate), Roche's Boniva, Novartis' Reclast and Warner Chilcott's Actonel. It is also requiring that consumer-friendly guides be distributed with every bisphosphonate prescription to make sure that patients understand the risks and how to minimize them.

The thigh fractures in question occur with little or no preceding trauma and may be preceded for months by a dull, aching pain in the thigh or groin. The agency said that patients experiencing such symptoms should visit a doctor at once to try and prevent a fracture.

"Today's label change is likely to raise the level of concern among patients about the safety of bisphosphonates significantly," said Geoff Porges, an analyst at Bernstein & Co.

The FDA also directed doctors to reassess whether patients should continue taking the drugs after five or more years. According to Felicia Cosman of the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the drugs appear to offer little or no benefit after this time, while the rate of fractures seems to increase.

"If the safety profile is changing and the efficacy is not clear, then many people should consider having an interruption in continuous use of the drug," Cosman said.

Bisphosphonates are meant to stop the bone-thinning processes of osteoporosis by interfering with the mechanism by which the body normally breaks down old bone cells and replaces them with new ones. Some doctors now believe that interfering with this process may cause bones to weaken over time, however.

Analysts predicted that the new warning might provide a boost for Amgen's new osteoporosis drug Prolia, which is not in the bisphosphonate family.
